Course Objectives
The Course will provide participants with updated background information and a practical approach to the emerging problem of antibiotic resistance and its influence on healthcare associated infections (HCAI). Through interactive sessions participants will be able to discuss practical problems with leading experts in the field.

Target Audience
The organizing committee will accept application from all clinical microbiologists and infectious disease physicians, especially trainees, who are interested in the study of antimicrobial resistance and healthcare-associated infections, and/or who are (or intend to be) members of Hospital Infection Control Committees.
The maximum number of course participants is 32.

Application Procedure
 
Please download the application form (see below) and return it to the course administrative secretariat by 30 August 2009 with the following enclosures:
Short application letter explaining your reason for attending the course.

ESCMID number if applicant is a member of the Society.
Applicants will be informed about the outcome of their application (included attendance grants) by email by 14 September 2009.
Registered participants will be required to remit the tuition fee by bank transfer by 27 September 2009. Detailed information will be given in the confirmation letter.
Registration will be considered complete only upon receipt of the tuition fee. The number of participants will be restricted to 32.

Tuition Fee

ESCMID members: EUR 500.
Non-members: EUR 600.
The fee includes three nights’ accommodation, printed course material, meals, coffee breaks, social programme, venue expenses, but not travel.

Attendance Grants
ESCMID provides a number of attendance grants for young attendees (born in 1969 or later) covering the tuition fee, but not travel costs. Applicants should send the application form, a short CV with a cover letter indicating their motivation for attending the event and their ESCMID membership number (if applicable) before 30 August 2009 to the administrative secretariat.
If there are more applicants than available grants, preference will be given to ESCMID members.
Applicants will be informed about their acceptance by email by 14 September 2009.

CME Accreditation
The "Croatian Society of Infectious Diseases – Croatian Medical Association" is accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME) to provide the following CME activity for medical specialists. The EACCME is an institution of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS), www.uems.net.
The "ESCMID Postgraduate Education Course: Antibiotic Resistance and Healthcare-associated Infections: Prevention and Treatment", is designated for a maximum of (or "for up to") 15 hours of European external CME credits. Each medical specialist should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.
EACCME credits are recognized by the American Medical Association towards the Physician"s Recognition Award (PRA). To convert EACCME credit to AMA PRA category 1 credit, contact the AMA.

The EACCME has granted 15 European CME credits (ECMEC) to the course.
